Mucino announced as district's next director of elementary education, pending BOE approval
The Gates Chili Central School District is pleased to announce Sara Mucino as the next Director of Elementary Education, pending Board of Education approval.
Mrs. Mucino has been a Gates Chili Spartan since 2012, serving as an AIS teacher at Paul Road Elementary School and, most recently, assistant principal at Walt Disney Elementary School. Mrs. Mucino will take over for Mrs. Erin Ugine, who has accepted a position as assistant principal at Florence Brasser Elementary School.
Mrs. Mucino’s background at the elementary level provides her with the foundational experience necessary to understand the strengths and areas of growth within our elementary programming. During her nearly 20-year career in education, she has been a special education teacher, a classroom teacher, an intervention teacher, a teacher leader and, most recently, an assistant principal. These roles give Mrs. Mucino a holistic perspective on the dynamics of an elementary school building and the systems needed to support student learning.
During her time at Gates Chili, Mrs. Mucino helped form the ELA Task Force to expand literacy supports for students, supported the integration of technology to enhance instruction through our Digital Conversion Team, co-led the development and implementation of our districtwide kindergarten screening, and has been an advocate for growth in district-level equity committees. Prior to her time at Gates Chili, Mrs. Mucino worked in the Greece CSD and a district in Loudon County, VA. She holds two master's degrees in educational leadership and reading education from St. John Fisher College and the University of Virginia, respectively.
Both Mrs. Mucino and Mrs. Ugine will officially begin their new roles on March 9. Dr. Adam Foley will continue to serve as interim assistant principal at Walt Disney until further notice. Please join us in wishing these leaders well in their new positions.
