Gates Chili Central School District

Over the past eight years Relay for Life of Gates Chili has raised more than $250,000 for the American Cancer Society and hopes to raise more on April 26.

There is no admission fee for this annual event. It features food trucks and games available from 5-7:30 p.m., then at 8:30 p.m. a luminary ceremony honoring survivors, caregivers and remembering lives lost to cancer. The money raised from the games, activities and the silent auction goes directly to the American Cancer Society here in Rochester. The food trucks also donate a portion of their income from the evening directly to ACS.

More than 30 high school students work on the Relay for Life of Gates Chili effort throughout the academic year and will be working the night of the event. This campaign provides students across the district with a wonderful service learning experience by teaching compassion and providing them with the opportunity to develop many skills--including organization, public speaking and group work skills.
