Diversity on display at student-planned event
The Multicultural International Club (MIC) hosted Diversity Week at Gates Chili High School March 18-22. This student-driven event was completely planned and executed by students from the MIC and also some ELL students.
All week students shared a welcome greeting over the PA system in their native language. Then on March 20, students participated in a Diversity Fair in the Counseling Atrium. Students shared poster board displays, PowerPoint presentations, ethnic clothing and authentic artifacts from their country. Among the countries and regions represented were Puerto Rico, Nigeria, East Asia, Yemen, the Caribbean and Nepal.
The event was very well attended by students and staff. Club advisors Stacy Killings, PsyD and Kathy White look forward to making this an annual event that is bigger and even better with each coming year.
