Student laptop information
The Gates Chili Central School District provides all students in grades 1-12 with a district-issued laptop to support their learning. To help reduce financial responsibility for families, a laptop protection plan is provided at no additional cost to cover damage or loss of devices and accessories. For questions about laptop damage deductibles, please contact your student’s assistant principal.
Students in grades 1, 5 and 9 will receive new laptops as part of the district’s four-year refresh cycle. Each laptop will be assigned to the student for four years before being replaced during the next cycle.
To receive a laptop, students must complete the following:
- Return their previous laptop (grades 5 and 8)
- Pay any damage/loss charges owed (grades 5 and 8)
- Parent/guardian must complete a new Laptop User Agreement for each new computer (grades K, 6 and 9) in ParentSquare.
The Laptop User Agreement form will be available beginning on Aug. 1 of each year.
Frequently asked questions
-
Students are issued a Windows-based laptop computer manufactured by either Dell or Lenovo. Gates Chili does not use Chromebooks. Each device is configured with the software and security features students need to access instructional resources and support learning throughout the school day.
-
Laptop distribution varies by grade level:
- Elementary (K-5): Laptops are assigned to classrooms and remain at school. Students use their devices during the school day under the guidance of their teacher.
- Middle School (6-8): Students are assigned a laptop that is distributed through their first-period class. Devices remain at school and are not taken home.
- High School (9-12): Ninth-grade students receive their laptops during Freshman Orientation. Students enrolling after the start of the school year will receive their device upon registration.
-
Keeping devices at school ensures they are available each day for instruction, reduces damage and loss, and allows students to focus on classroom learning while maintaining equitable access to technology.
